My Educational Philosophy

I feel that it is important to share with you my educational philosophy. As a teacher, I am constantly growing in my beliefs and techniques. However, there is always a basis that I come from when teaching and learning. Please read below for my beliefs on what is important when it comes to educating your children and myself.

Throughout my education and teaching, I have come to believe that it is highly important for a teacher to possess a wide general knowledge and deep knowledge of the content to be taught. Throughout my time as both a student and a teacher, I have encountered many teachers. Some of these teachers had a thirst for knowledge both in and outside of their content areas. I have also encountered teachers who feel that they know all that is necessasry and are done learning. I have made it a goal as a teacher, to show an interest in my work and to be constantly growing my knowledge of all subjects. I want my students to know that I am putting my all into my own learning and teaching them and I expect them to do the same. I will continue to explore new developments both in and outside of my fields of study so that I can share these with my students.

In addition to having a vast and ever growing knoweldge base, I think it is important to have fun when learning. Many of us have had the experiences that make us feel that there is no point in learning a certain topic, it is not applicable to us in any way, or it is just too hard to learn. When I approach any topic, I do my best to share with students my enthusiasm and practical reasons for learning the topics being taught. I search for ways to add fun and humor to the learning process, through things such as games, strategies, jokes, and general light-heartedness while keeping a focus on the objective of each lesson. I will always share my joy of learning and teaching in hopes of it transfering to my students and helping them to become enthusiastic, life-long learners just like me.

As a teacher, these concepts are highly important to me and are the basis for what I do. Knowledge and enthusiasm are in great demand in the classroom and I plan to bring these into my lessons on a daily basis so that I may share them with every student that I encounter.

I took the time to create this page as a way to enhance student learning and make connections for students both inside and outside of the classroom. On this website you will find supplemental information and activities that will help deepen student understanding of classroom topics. Additionally, you will find the blog on the homepage that is updated daily with information and assignments.

Please take the time to browse through the website and links. If you have any questions about the content or suggestions for links, please feel free to contact me using the information at the bottom of each page. I look forward to hearing from and working with all of you!
